Case Study: How Netsync Delivered 180+ Racks to a Top U.S. Financial Institution

A Netsync Customer Experience (CX) Staging & Integration Services Success Story

The Challenge

One of the nation’s largest financial institutions needed to deploy more than 180 fully integrated rack solutions across multiple data center facilities. Every rack required custom switching configurations from two different manufacturers, Arista and Cisco, and every rack needed full vendor certification before support contracts could be activated. No two racks were identical. Each had a similar baseline configuration but required custom switching builds tailored to its specific role and location.

Each rack had to be individually engineered for the specific power, cooling, and weight requirements of its destination facility. The certification process alone, which required coordination with the vendor’s professional services organization, would have added weeks to every rack under a traditional model. And the customer was managing all of this across multiple data center locations simultaneously.

Under a traditional procurement model, the customer would have needed to place separate purchase orders with two switch manufacturers, a cabinet supplier, PDU vendors, air handling vendors, cabling companies, and a professional services firm to handle the certification work. With each enterprise purchase order taking up to eight weeks to process and 15 or more required per project, the administrative burden alone would have added months before a single rack was built. At roughly three months per rack, 180 racks would have consumed years of procurement and engineering resources.

The Solution

The customer turned to Netsync Network Solutions and its Staging and Integration Services, part of the Netsync Customer Experience (CX) portfolio. Through a single purchase order and a single point of contact, Netsync took ownership of the entire project, from procurement and engineering to build, configuration, certification, testing, and delivery.

Netsync procures every component that goes into every rack. Switches, routers, servers, storage, PDUs, cabinets, air handling, hundreds of copper cables, fiber runs, SFPs, velcro, and all associated hardware are sourced, received, inventoried, and staged at Netsync’s integration facility. When components from different manufacturers arrive on different timelines, Netsync warehouses and tracks all hardware until every piece is available for the build.

A dedicated engineering team is assigned to each rack build. They assemble every rack to the customer’s exact specifications, purpose-engineered for the destination data center’s power, cooling, dimensional, and weight requirements. Every cable is dressed, routed, and terminated inside the rack. Every switch is configured to the customer’s standards. The result is a fully integrated, fully functional rack that looks and performs exactly as specified before it ever leaves the facility.

Beyond the physical build, Netsync handles full software installation and logical configuration, including operating system setup, application-layer configuration, and BIOS and firmware updates, so each rack arrives production-ready at both the hardware and software layers. The logical configuration work is what often extends a build timeline. A physical rack-and-stack can take roughly a week, but once software staging and full logical configuration are factored in, a single rack can take up to five or six weeks to complete.

Before any rack ships, it undergoes full DOA and burn-in testing under sustained load. Asset tagging and serialization are completed to the customer’s standards, and any dead-on-arrival hardware is identified and resolved before the rack leaves the facility. Once testing is complete, every rack goes through a detailed quality control inspection to verify that all components are properly seated, all cabling meets customer specifications, all labeling is accurate, and the rack is fully documented and ready for packing.

Each rack ships with a comprehensive ADS build document covering all configurations, IP assignments, and the technical detail the customer’s team needs to commission the rack immediately on arrival. On delivery day, the rack rolls into the data center, connects northbound power and northbound connectivity to the customer’s switching infrastructure, and is ready for production.

Netsync managed all vendor coordination and certification requirements across the full engagement, delivering more than 180 racks over 18 months on a single purchase order, a pace and scale no other partner could match.
