Case Study: Netsync Lights Fiber Expansion for Peoples Telephone with Room to Grow

Netsync Expands Fiber Optic Internet to 13 East Texas Counties

The Challenge

In 2010, Peoples Telephone delivered expanded fiber-optic Internet service to a large swath of East Texas covering a total of 13 counties – from Henderson County in the south and north to Lamar County. In all, Peoples extended its fiber network by more than 600 miles to provide the backbone enabling Internet connectivity to industrial, medical and education facilities.

Now the residents and business in a host of counties that comprise the extended coverage area in East Texas could rely on reliable Internet service for the first time, linking rural residents to larger communities like Mount Pleasant, Sulphur Springs and Greenville.

By 2017, Peoples was seeking to expand their initial DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) optical solution and sought a reliable partner with extensive experience and proven abilities to deliver the service. The Optical Networking professionals at Netsync shared their capabilities outlining an array of optical solutions from its longtime partner Cisco.

For more than 17 years, Netsync has successfully deployed thousands of Cisco products and solutions for service providers, from school divisions, higher education institutions, State and local governments and commercial enterprises. In addition to being a Cisco Gold Master Certification Partner for Service Provider, Netsync holds Cisco Gold Master certifications for Collaboration, Networking, and Security.

Following detailed meetings with Peoples, Netsync’s optical experts recommended the best solution and technology would be provided by Cisco. In this case, it was Cisco’s Network Convergence System (NCS) 2006.

After meeting with the client, the Netsync team identified that Peoples’ capacity requests could be addressed by deploying Cisco equipment. This option not only accommodated their budget goals but also addressed future bandwidth on the network.

Netsync deploys the industry’s benchmark for DWDM Solutions

Netsync deployed the Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 2006 across eight locations, including seven core hub sites and a single amplifier site. The Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 2000 Series has set the networking industry’s benchmark for DWDM solutions, delivering massive scale and performance necessary for the converged network architectures.

Netsync’s optical professionals also upgraded several of the client’s routes to the Cisco NCS 2006 from the Cisco 15454 Carrier Packet Transport (CPT) System.

Now, Peoples could route traffic through 10 Gbps Ethernet LAN point-to-point circuits that connect rural communities to more heavily populated metro areas. And Netsync’s professionals configured each of the client’s eight locations to accommodate future growth and provide additional capacity.

“The professionals at Netsync made this a seamless engagement,” said Derek Davidson, IT Director at Peoples. “Throughout the entire process, we were kept up to date on the project’s progress and the specific milestones met by the Netsync team.”

Successful deployment leads to a trusted, long term relationship

As a result of this successful engagement with Netsync on its network expansion, Peoples turned to the company to help design other solutions such as network security and 100g DWDM solutions.
